Tearle Byers brought Sweetest Day to Northwest Arkansas in 2006 after reading that in 1922, Herbert Birch Kingston of Cleveland, OH called on his friends, family and community to help do something positive for the less fortunate.  Feeling that the city’s homeless, shut-ins and orphans often felt forgotten and neglected, Herbert conceived the idea of showing them that they were remembered.  During the years that followed, other Clevelanders began to participate in the celebration ceremony, which came to be called “Sweetest Day.”

Along with Tearle Byers and 2 local restaurants, Bonefish Grill and Carrabba’s,  the yearly “Sweetest Day” fundraiser event for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County is sponsored by Kraft, Kimberly-Clark,  eco-ark, Englander, nwaparachutingpenguins.com, Wal-Mart, Lawrence, Uni-lever, Miller Lite and E&J Gallo Winery.

According to the National Children’s Alliance:
"The collaborative child-focused approach of a Children’s Advocacy Center ensures that children are not further victimized by the systems intended to protect them."
